Hey There, Well Blaque Studios is starting to build it’s own momentum, it’s great to see a steady flow of enquiries and I’ve got a lot of the summer season already booked out!

The exciting news:

I’m going to be running a few different photography workshops, the first ones will be here in Perth, I’m still working out the details, but I’m going to run some 1 or 2 day workshops. We’ll start with some theory and questions and answers, then move on to a practical session on one of our beautiful beaches here in Perth. I’m thinking of doing a follow up session where I can give practical feedback on your photography and then possibly one final practical session.

Workshop number two I’m looking at running is a 2-3 day photography trip down in the South West corner of Western Australia. Probably somewhere like Yallingup or in the surrounds. I’m still working out the logistics of such an undertaking, but it would be 2-3 days of theory, practical sessions at dawn, morning, afternoon and dusk.. and possibly even some night shooting if anyone is kee. The idea is that it is an all inclusive fee, you pay your fee and that gets you accomodation, food, the workshops, transport to and from the practical sessions etc.

And now for the very exciting news.. I’m in the process of working out the feasability of running a 7-10 day photography tour of Phuket / Thailand.. it would involve accomodation, food, private tours to the islands, including a private tour to Phi Phi Dom Island, the beach where “The Beach” was filmed, before all the speed boats and tourists arrive. Private tours of some of the more secluded beaches on the islands as well as the more famous ones like James Bond Island.

I’m looking for people who would be interested in being a participant in any of these workshops :) Let me know and I’ll be sure to send you some details once they are ready. I’ve already had heavy interest in all 3 workshops, so places will be limited!

Regards

Hey There, we were expecting some more wild weather last night and today, so I grabbed the camera and headed out in the hopes of capturing some great shots of it. Bec & I headed straight to the coast as there had been reports of some waterspouts in the ocean, which would be really cool to capture. Unfortunately we didn’t see any of those, but we did watch a magnificent sunset though and I got a couple of great shots and some great video footage too :)

Hey There, for those of us who were watching the skies on this very chilly night (6 degrees) we were lucky enough to get to watch a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes behind the earth so that the earth blocks the sun’s light from hitting the moon, basically leaving a huge shadow on an otherwise full moon.

I got my camera out and took a few shots of the sequence, it was only a partial eclipse tonight, so part of the moon remained visible and lit up the entire time. Here are the photos:

None of my photos are available to be used without my permission, they are not in the public domain. If you would like to use them for any purpose, please feel free to contact me!

Sorry about having to put the watermark on the photos, I’ve had a few issues in the past with a certain TV channel stealing my photos and not crediting me.

Hey There, It’s been a pretty busy week, I’ve been working through the website, working on getting the shopping cart and online ordering ready for a live run, so that custom print orders, as well as my limited edition prints can be purchased online. In the mean time though, please keep contacting me directly for your custom orders and prints.. In the last 2 weeks I’ve sold quite a few extra prints of the lightning shot I got over Perth City during the Perth Storm we had back in March, as well as a few other custom and panoramic prints on aluminium.

I’ve uploaded a few of the shots I’ve taken in the last week, from Lesmurdie Falls, Perth City and Two Rocks. I’m looking forward to getting some time to head down south again to get some new panoramic shots. In the mean time, please enjoy these shots and feel free to contact me if you would like to order any of them :)

I’ve never seen the Swan River so still and with such a perfect reflection! I’ve posted up a couple of shots for you to have a look at, as always the images are available to purchase either through RedBubble or if you are after something bigger and better, just email me.

I’m in the proecess upgrading and updating my website, I’ve added a shopping cart system that will eventually have all my limited edition prints available to purchase through it. The bookings will be handled through this website and will be able to be paid for online.

Hey There, Bec and I left Perth bound for Singapore and ultimately Phuket in the very early hours of Thursday morning, it was a chilly 14 degrees celcius. We flew through the night, landing in Singapore Airport at around 5.30am, headed through customs to collect our bags and then straight back through customs after checking into our next flight. Next on the agenda was food, we hunted down some breakfast at the Burger King and tried some food neither of us had seen before. I’m not sure what they do to the bacon, but it was paper thin and shattered when you bent it.. I’ve never seen anything like it!

Singapore Airport is an experience in itself, there is just kilometers of shops.. and not just any shops, I’m talking about about Burberry, Gucci, Hugo Boss and other brands you would expect in an inner city luxury retail precent, or Chapel Street in Melbourne.. certainly not what I was expecting in an airport.. there are apparently over 300 retailers in the airport.

Anyway, after wandering around the rabbit warren that is Singapore Airport for a few hours, we boarded our flight to Phuket, Thailand! It was a very short flight, barely time to fall asleep and then we were descending into Phuket. Phuket Airport is somewhat different to Singapore Airport.. much smaller and much busier! We cleared through customs with no problems and headed out to find a taxi.. well that was the intention, instead the taxi came and found us! We hadn’t even made it out the door when we were approached by several people trying to get us in their brand of taxi, I’m not sure who is legal and who isn’t, but after changing our money over, we paid 750 baht to catch a taxi from the airport down to the south of Phuket to a small town called Kata Beach.

I’ve got to say, riding in a taxi in Phuket is probably somewhat similar to riding in a taxi anywhere in asia.. you have very little in the way of recognisable road rules, I counted at least 3 red lights that we sailed through and I couldn’t discern any speed limits to speak of, we sat on about 100kph most of the way, with scooters and motorbikes all around us. It’s strange how so much chaos doesn’t end in more accidents, I didn’t see a single accident or even any close calls.

Our hotel turned out to be a rather nice little hotel only 1 minutes walk from Kata Beach itself, the welcome at the hotel made you feel like a celebrity! Cold towels for you to wipe your face and hands with, some sort of sweet fruity drink that was ice cold as well.. very welcome in the 36 degrees heat with very high humidity.

I’ll have some stories of what we’ve done since then over the next couple of days, I’ve included a couple of photos from our trip so far. All these were taken on my little Canon G9.. it’s an amazing little camera and the perfect travel companion for those who are a little more serious about their photography, but don’t want to lug around a digital SLR (of which I’m carrying 2 of).

Hey All, I know it’s been a very long time between posts on this blog.. 5 months roughly! Things have been pretty busy getting the photography studio off the ground, things are starting to pick up and I’m starting to generate a lot of interest and I’m getting a lot of enquiries for wedding photography, if you are looking for a wedding photographer.. please check out my studio website Blaque Studios (pronounced Black).

I’ve decided to split my business branding, so that all the weddings, portraits and commercial work primarily goes through the studio and my landscape photography, up coming workshops and other bits and pieces go through this website and under my own name. I’m also in the process of working on my other website (paulmp.com.au) that will mainly focus on graphic & web design as well as things like video production.

Please bear with me on this website as I build it and put content into place.. I’m overseas at the moment too, so I’m trying to work while limited to the slow and unreliable internet here in Thailand.. :)

Regards

Hey All, For anyone who was in Perth yesterday, I’m sure you will all remember this storm for many years to come, we were hit by a bit of a freak storm that had rain, high winds, lots of hail and even more rain! I decided (like an idiot) to head out in the storm and take some photos.. Well I ended up staying up all night trying to get some lightning photos.. and it was well and truely worth my effort! I’ve included the photos at the end of this post, these photos have been used in WA Today (cover photo), The West and several other publications (some with out permission) and ended up going into a chaim email that got emailed all around the world!
