Canola on a hill

Hey All,

I was discussing Canola field photos with fellow landscape photographer (and source of inspiration) Adrian Wayte, when I realised that I hadn’t actually blogged my all time favourite image from last year!

So here it is! This was taken with my old Canon 5DmkII and a 24-70mm f2.8L lens, if I recall right I used a grad filter and stitched it in photoshop and that was about it, maybe some minor levels adjustment and sharpening. The area is just off to the east of the Brand Highway on the way north to Geraldton.

I’m still a bit disappointed with the blown out highlights on the right handside, but that’s life, we get to keep hunting for those “perfect” shots!

Regards

Paul Pichugin

The shot is bordering on greatness mate but I think the blown highlights on the right and the over saturated blues are letting it down for me.

But I really like the treatment of the canola itself and that part of the image!

Thanks Mark, I’m not sure what to do about the blown highlights, I do need to tone down the blues somewhat, one of my grad filters seems to have this effect on the sky every time I use it. Hopefully my new set don’t have weird colour casts!

I’ll re-work the image a bit and see what I can come up with :-)
